Why are Children Lacking Sleep ?Just how important is school nowadays? Teachers often complain that homework is not done well and that students are often arriving at school delayed and yawning through lack of sleep.
There are, it seems, two main explanations for this. Firstly, many young children stay up late to watch TV programmes suitable for them, which may finish as late as 8:00. No child wants to admit
not having seen what everybody else has.
Secondly, a growing number of older children, particularly those approaching school-leaving age are taking up parttime evening or weekend work. They feel that working experience, not academic qualification will help them find jobs on leaving school. One can sympathize with both groups of children but it doesn't make a teacher's life any easier.

如今學(xué)校有多重要?老師經(jīng)常抱怨學(xué)生們，不是作業(yè)做得不好，就是經(jīng)常上課遲到，并因?yàn)槿庇X而呵欠連天。
看起來這種現(xiàn)象主要有兩種解釋。首先，許多小孩子看電視熬夜到很晚，那些適合他們的節(jié)目也許要到八點(diǎn)那么晚才能結(jié)束。沒有孩子愿意承認(rèn)自己沒看過別人都看過
的節(jié)目。
其次，越來越多稍大點(diǎn)的孩子，尤其是那些接近離校年齡的孩子，開始在晚上或周末做兼職工作。他們覺得畢業(yè)時(shí)能幫他們找到工作的是工作經(jīng)歷而不是學(xué)術(shù)資歷。我們可以對(duì)這兩類孩子表示同情，但是這無法使老師的日子更好過些。
