  My Closest Friend in University

In choosing a friend, one should be very careful. A good friend is as valuable as a precious stone. He can help you study. You can have fun together and she is a genius in understanding and tolerant others, and as a friend, she is honest and reliable.

Above all else, I look for understanding in a friend. As good friend, she always understands what another person is feeling. She is not quick to judge, instead, she tries to think of ways to be helpful. Further more, she is also a good listener. Of course, I m one of the others .

At the same time, however, she is a honest friend. She doesn t look for faults in me. But she does not ignore them either, she once said to me that she would rather focus on my good points. In short, she can understand me and accept me mostly.

As a good friend, she is also reliable. I can always depend on her, especially during the days when I prepared for my graduate acceptance test last year. And, if she tells me somewhere at a certain tine, I can be sure she well be there. If I need a favor she ll do her best to help me. If I am in trouble, she ll not desert me.

So when you meet someone who is reliable, honest, and understanding, I ll tell you that you have found a good friend.

  Self-help Traveling

More and more college students choose self-help trayelijig rather than arranged tours when they plan to travel. The reason inay be that by ananging the route, booking cheaper hotels and taking cheaper transportation means 2.W by themselves, they can save a lot of money.

Convenient and economical as self-help traveling sounds, it still has some potential problems Perhaps the most important one is the safety hazard. Being alone without a group or a tour guide, a traveler may be helpless in face of danger, i.e. robbery, wild animal attacks, etc. In addition, they are more Eikely to be at risk of getting lost when traveling alone in a strange city or in the remote countryside.

In my view, self-help traveling can be exciting and challenging which is worth trying. However, before setting out alone on a tour, travelers should make good preparations. Besides, they should hear security in mind all the time and keep ia touch with their friends or relatives. By doing soa they can enjoy the pleasure of exploring a strange city safe and sound.

Nowadays, campus marriage is widely people say that is natural for two college lovers to get married because they have reached the appropriate ages and it is a basic right for addition, some people hold a pragmatic attitude, thinking that it is difficult to find a better partner after graduation and during the process of marriage they will experience true love, which will bring good results to their life and study.

However, still many people against the college one thing, the university or college is a place to study instead of a community to lead family another, though mostly adults, they are actually immature psychologically and their wishes to get married are mostly out of more,as students, they are not ready to support a family financially.

As far as I am concerned, college marriage is a sharp double-bladed weighing the arguments of both sides,I believe that it is OK to allow college students to get is their fact, most college students would choose not to get married in the face of such fierce competition and heavy school work.

Are some people born clever, and others born stupid? Or is intelligence developed by our environment or experience? Strangely enough, the answer to both questions is the one hand, if we take two people at randomfromthe crowd, it is very likely that their degrees of intelligence will be completely different. However, if we take two identical twins, chances are that they will be as intelligent as each other. Therefore, a conclusion can be drawn that intelligence is to some extent something we are born with. The closer the blood relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be in intelligence.

On the other hand, though, if we put two identical twins in different environments, for example, we might sendone to university and the other to a factory where the work is boring, we would find differences in their intelligence several years later, which indicates that environment does play a crucial role in our as every coin has two sides, our intelligence is partly born and partly developed. The sure way to develop our intelligence is intelligent parents as well as a good environment.

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on living in the virtual world. Try to imagine what will happen when people spend more and more time in the virtual world instead of interacting in the real world. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200.

The relation between the virtual world and the real one has aroused public attention in recent years, and has become a stormy topic on in TV programs, newspapers, university classes and many aspects of our everyday life.

The topic’s status as the focus of public concern mainly results from the virtual world based on the Web is a double-edged sword for human beings in the real world. For one thing, it is undoubted that the virtual world does bring men unprecedented experience, such as on-line shopping, chat with friends and family members on the web, playing video games, e-commerce and so on; it seems that the virtual world can meet all requirements of humans. For another thing, as the wisest creature on the planet, we, humans should reflect on what will take place if they take more and more time to live in the virtual world rather than in the real world. For my part, if we do so, the time we spend with friends or family will become less. And we hardly see them once in a week. It will make us feel lonely if we continue to be indulged in the virtual world instead of enjoying the real life , such as talking with friends on the phone or going out with them.

To my best understanding, we should distinguish that the virtual world is totally different from the real one and the former cannot replace the latter either. Otherwise we will be reduced to the slaves in the virtual reality. If we want to enjoy our life and keep our friendship more effectively, we should spend more time with them in our real life. Only in this way can we not only make full use of the communication tool in the virtual word but also make our real life more meaningful and colorful.

Should Graduates Spend Much on Job Hunting?

Should Graduates Spend Much on Job Hunting? Nowadays college graduates spend more and more money on job hunting. According to a recent survey, almost every graduate spends some money on finding a job. And clothing, transportation, resumes producing and training expense are the main aspects that cost them a lot of money.

As to this phenomenon, different people have different views. Some say it is necessary for graduates to spend money in producing embellished resumes and buying suitable clothes, which can give interviewers a good impression and increase their chance of success. However, others dont think so. They argue that the high expenditure can increase their parents financial burden since most students have no regular income. Apart from that, the decorated resumes do little help to find a job because most HR managers pay more attention to skills.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong for graduates to invest some money on job hunting. But they should bear in mind that it is their knowledge, skills as well as experience that matter a lot. So they must have a rational attitude toward what they should buy and how much money they should spend.

Do you check your smartphone frequently? Do you feel distracted if your smartphone is not with you? When there’s no wifi or signal for your smartphone, will you get irritated? If you say yes, then you’ve got addiction to smartphones. Smartphone addiction is a phenomenon that causes a lot of troubles to people.

In the first place, it may cause some problems to your health, such as visual fatigue, cervical spondylosis, and even neurasthenia. A friend of mine suffers from a serious spine collapse due to her addiction to smartphones during pregnancy.

Secondly, if you keep playing with your phone when you are with your friends or family, you will spend less time talking to them. In fact, it is they who need and deserve to be cared for.

Lastly, an excessive reliance on smartphones may weaken your interpersonal skills. When you cannot find a place, you consult your GPS instead of consulting local people. You spare more time playing mobile games than playing real games with real people. As time passes, it’s possible that you may have difficulty in communicating with people.

Therefore, isn’t it better to get rid of smartphone addiction?

In the face of a rapidly changing world, peopleincreasingly realize that independent learning is anecessary ability for continuous progress andadaptation. In my opinion, self-directed learningmakes an important contribution to personaldevelopment.

First, independent learning can develop studentsability to think independently and solve problems. In contrast to traditional teaching models, wherestudents often rely on the knowledge provided byteachers, independent learning ability requiresstudents to actively explore and access information, which improves their learning initiative and abilityto think on their own, allowing them to deal withcomplex problems. Secondly, independent learningcontributes to individualized development. Eachstudent has a different learning pace, and a uniformteaching model is difficult to meet the needs of all.Self-directed learning allows students to reach theirfull personal potential by learning at their owninterests and at their own pace. This greatly enablesthem to make greater progress in academic andpersonal development.

In summary, independent learning not only fostersthe ability of students to think for themselves andsolve problems, but also promotes the developmentof individuality.

There is an old saying help others, and you will be helped when you are in s the experience of our forefathers ,however , it is correct in many cases even today.

a number of factors are accountable for this old saying. one of the most common factor is that helping each other enables people to get work done easily and quickly.

For instance, if a student meets a difficult question about their major, he or she can seek help from fellow classmates, and it is clear this will save more time and energy to solve the problem. another contributing cause is that helping others makes people feel warm inside. you can just imagine that how warm it is when you get help in big cities like Beijing or shanghai without any relatives , which will quarantee peoples relatives, which will guarantee peoples mental health.

It can directly promote the rapid progress of the world and indirectly spurs continuous development of the individuals.

And eventually brings economic prosperity and social harmony .

Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when he starts his career. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in the big cities. To them, big cities mean more experiences, more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation.

But some other graduates want to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management’s attention and may win promotion earlier.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks.

Peter Buck,a famous American female writer, once said “if you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday.” Evidently, it is meant to tell us the significant influence of history to this day and age or the intimate relationship between past and present.

Actually, examples proving it are abounded in our daily life. Here I can think of no better illustration of the proverb than the experience of students. In terms of English examination, taking CET-6 as an example, we students prefer to bone up on the past examination papers first in order to pass the exam successfully. Taking a look around, we can also find examples too many to enumerate. It is no denying to say that“Histories make men wise”

To sum up, we may say that if you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday. So, one should not indulge himself in confusion for today and complaint the setbacks he is facing. What he really has to do is to slow down and seek inspiration or solution in his past. In a word, sometimes the best way to go forward is to look backward.

According to the picture, an employer turns down a job applicant, for his degree is less advanced than the other applicants, even though he has a good resume. Actually, what’s behind the cartoon is the tendency that employers focus on academic performance when hiring.

No one disputes that a college or higher degree opens doors. Despite that, as far as I’m concerned, academic degree should not be the primary criteria in selecting talents. First of all, academic degrees only represent the applicants’ proficiency in their school work, and cannot demonstrate their personality or other abilities. For instance, the responsibility of a human resources manager is to deal with people, and thus it requires advanced people skill which is by no means shown in the diploma. Second, emphasis on degrees may stall the development of the company. They will lose real talents if they judge people only by their educational background, while it is often the case that college drop-outs like Bill Gates, Michael Dell, Steve Jobs, etc., run wildly successful enterprises.

Therefore, instead of running after applicants with higher degrees, companies shouldbecome more concerned about what it takes to do the job and what a college education actually provides.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the saying “The decisions that people make quickly are always wrong.” You can give an example or two to illustrate your point of view. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

Not all the decisions made quickly are wrong

From my perspective, the rush decision may be wrong if it was made when we were in great anger or when wer were tempted by something. However, some decisions can be made instantly. We make decisions every day, and not every decision is so important that it needs our careful thought. For example, many white-collar workers go out to have lunch every weekday. Obviously, that simple decision does not need ten minutes to consider gains and losses. In some situations, there is not so much time for us to think twice, because the chance may be lost in any minute when we hesitate. For example, someone fells into the river and is drowning. In this case, most people will try to rescue the drowning one without delay. Another case is that sometimes we need to make quick decisions to grasp opportunities. As can be seen, the decisions that people make quickly are not always wrong, especially when we should follow our instinct in certain situations, such as emergencies and once in a lifetime chances.

College Graduates Work as Village Officials 大學(xué)生當(dāng)村干部

There is no denying the fact that it is a hotly debated topic today how college graduates should choose their careers. Some time ago, it was reported that some college graduates chose to work as village officials. To this people’s attitudes differ sharply. Some hold the positive view while others are against it. As far as I am concerned, I believe that it is a wise choice.

On the one hand, college graduates can contribute a lot to the development of the countryside. First, they can apply their professional knowledge there. Secondly, they can introduce new concepts to the countryside and speed the development of rural culture. As a result, the gap between the city and the countryside can well be bridged.

On the other hand, these graduates can benefit a lot from working as village officials. While too many college graduates are fighting for the handful of positions in big cities, these graduates can find themselves a wider stage of development and realize their value.

Therefore, college graduates working as village officials is a win-win choice and more graduates should be encouraged to work in the countryside.

  04 Electricity

The modern age is an age of electricity. People are so used to electric lights, radio, televisions, and telephones that it is hard to imagine what life would be like without them. When there is a power failure, people grope about in flickering candlelight, cars hesitate in the streets because there are no traffic lights to guide them, and food spoils in silent refrigerators.

Yet, people began to understand how electricity works only a little more than two centuriesago. Nature has apparently been experimenting in this field for million of years. Scientists are discovering more and more that the living world may hold many interesting secrets of electricity that could benefit humanity.

All living cell send out tiny pulses of electricity. As the heart beats, it sends out pulses of record; they form an electrocardiogram, which a doctor can study to determine how well the heart is working. The brain, too, sends out brain waves of electricity, which can be recorded in an electroencephalogram.

The electric currents generated by most living cells are extremely small – often so small that sensitive instruments are needed to record them. But in some animals, certain muscle cells have become so specialized as electrical generators that they do not work as muscle cells at all. When large numbers of these cell are linked together, the effects can be astonishing. The electric eel is an amazing storage battery. It can seed a jolt of as much as eight hundred volts of electricity through the water in which it live. ( An electric house current is only one hundred twenty volts.) As many as four-fifths of all the cells in the electric eel’s body are specialized for generating electricity, and the strength of the shock it can deliver corresponds roughly to length of its body.

With science and technology developing, an increasing number of people prefer to study online instead of attending school. Indeed, e-learning has become a common phenomenon.

There are two factors leading to this condition. For one thing, with the speeding up of modern life rhythm, the internet, to a large degree, plays a dominant part in our daily life. Thus, there is no doubt that it offers us many advantages and makes our life more convenient and efficient, ranging from online meal booking to reading online. Additionally, it is a more advanced approach to access to essential and useful information. By clicking the mouse , any stories and information what I want at any given time and site can be accessed. The Importance of Name Recently, it is universally acknowledged that due attention has to be paid to the importance of name. To begin with, a large number of people assert that one’s name can exert profound influence on the success of a person or institution. In addition, some even maintain that the mental health and physical fitness of a person will be influenced or even determined by his or her name. On the contrary, it is the view of a great many people that one’s name is of little significance. I can think of no better illustration than the following ones. “Qiu”, which means “hill”, is the name of Confucius, the greatest thinker, philosopher and educator throughtout history. Likewise, another case in point is Lao Zi, the founder of philosophical and religious Taoism, whose name is “er”, which means “the ear”. These examples effectively clarify that one’s future is only determined by his striving spirit, talent or intelligence rather than some mysterious and superstitious factors such as certain names or lucky numbers. As for me, significance should be attached to intelligence, persistence and diligence instead of one’s name. Given all the above arguments, it is high time that we put an end to this undesirable phenomenon.

On the Importance of a Name There is no denying the fact that it is a controversial topic whether names are important or not. Some hold the positive view. They claim that a good name, or a name that can be easily remembered, can bring one a lot more opportunities than others. Some Chinese may also believe that a name designed according to the traditional theory of five elements can bring good luck. Others, however, hold the opposite view. They argue that a name is nothing but a code to distinguish one from another. A person “good” name may not be as successful as the name indicates. In the same way, a person who has a common or casually given name can also achieve tremendous success. Personally, I believe that both sides have something right, so we should not go to extremes. On the one hand, we have to admit that a well designed name can help a person to some extent. On the other hand, we should not exaggerate the effect of a name on a persons fate. Anyway, a persons success mainly depends on his hard work and desirable personalities.

Career or Family: which is more important?

When asked about their opinion of career and family, people always respond differently. Some people deem it more important to pursue their career, while there are always other people who argue that family should be the number one in one’s life.

It goes without any question that career plays a key role in our life. In the very first place, career can give us an aim to live on. Without career, much of our living time will be certainly wasted. What’s more, career can provide us with a means to live on. Most of the people earn their income from a job. On the other hand, family is also an indispensable part of life, as many people will admit. Family is always regarded as a place where we can escape from troubles in life. In addition, we can obtain a sense of belonging to from family. Without it, anyone will feel lonely and desperate.

In my opinion, career and family are not in opposition to each other. Rather, they can enhance each other so that one’s life can become better and better. Therefore, it’s not a choice between right and wrong, but one between ideal and practical.

Is Becoming Rich the Only Goal of Life?

As the saying goes, "Money makes the mare go." Living in the contemporary society, more and more people are becoming money-oriented whether voluntarily or reluctantly. Sometimes, they should be reminded that becoming rich is not the only purpose of life.

If one spends all his life pursuing nothing but money, he might live in a big house and drive a luxury car when he gets old. However, a persons material need is within limits. One cannot live in two houses and drive two cars at the same time. Neither should one take in two persons amount of food. Besides, peoples desire and ambition to make money could be infinite. More of money doesnt always make us happier. More of Money tends to make us used to that money and desirous of having even more of that.

Therefore, we should look around and find other goals of life. For example, one can live a meaningful life by discovering his gift and making the best of it. One can also live a happy life by making more friends and building a joyful family.

Andrew Carnegie, known as the King of Steel, built the steel industry in the United States, and , in the process, became one of the wealthiest men in America. His success resulted inpart from his ability to sell the product and in part from his policy of expanding during periods of economic decline, when most of his competitors were reducing their investments.

Carnegie believed that individuals should progress through hard work, but he also felt strongly that the wealthy should use their fortunes for the benefit of society. He opposed charity, preferring instead to provide educational opportunities that would allow others to help themselves. "He who dies rich, dies disgraced," he often said.

Among his more noteworthy contributions to society are those that bear his name, including the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh, which has a library, a museum of fine arts, and a museum of national history. He also founded a school of technology that is now part of Carnegie-Mellon University. Other philanthrophic gifts are the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace to promote understanding between nations, the Carnegie Institute of Washington to fund scientific research, and Carnegie Hall to provide a center for the arts.

Few Americans have been left untouched by Andrew Carnegies generosity. His contributions of more than five million dollars established 2,500 libraries in small communities throughout the country and formed the nucleus of the public library system that we all enjoy today.

While, today, it is no long a rare case. Combined with the fast food, the digital communication , online shopping has been a common part of our life.

Have you still remembered the annoying time when you found the commodities you buy on Internet was not the slightest as what you had expected and long time had to be taken for its replace and even compensation. Actually, just with the seemingly beautiful pictures of the products on Internet, it is hard for us to make rational choices. After all, seeing is believing.

Then, what should we do? The foremost is to enforce establish some relevant laws and regulations, with strong supervision over some shopping websites being reinforced as well. "Modesty is not only an ornament, but also a guard to virtue." Joseph Addison once said. Modesty not only makes one look beautiful and well-mannered, but also serves as a guarantee to his excellent character. Apparently people may lose their fine qualities if they are not modest.

Simple as Addison’s remark may sound, it contains abundant life philosophy. Modesty can prompt us to go farther and achieve greater success. Those who are modest will never be content with their current achievements; instead, they will work constantly to accomplish a higher target. Take Benjamin Franklin as an example: He was once a printer of humble origins, so if he was simply satisfied with small achievements, it would be impossible for him to attain enormous achievements in so many fields such as science, politics and literature.

We should always keep in mind the significance of modesty in our life. We need to keep an open mind to accept new things, absorb new information, acquire new knowledge and seize new opportunities. "Success consists in industry and modesty." A philosopher once said.
